First Fridays
Oakland is a great city for artists. There is a wide ranging, supportive community serving those of us that weld 20ft tall steel figurines, construct and personalize handmade jewelry and clothing, hot glue a pick up truck full of golf tees, or silkscreen posters in our dining rooms. One of the best local arts events is the "Art Murmur" taking place every first Friday of the month and giving local crafts people the opportunity to take their wares to the street and make a few bucks off all that hard work and toil.

Roadtrip
In May I drove to Austin, TX with my girlfriend to help her participate in the Renegade Craft Fair. We logged a lot of miles and Jeannine's camera didn't make it. I shot all of these with my iPhone, and got into an interesting discussion a few days ago about the new disposability of photos, which is ironic because we can shoot them, save them and share them so quickly now, and the results can be stunning.
We had a terrific trip, not without its moments of despair, but overall triumphant. Pleasant memories of wide skies, friendly people, great unexpected street art, new friends, great music, and all the hot dry air we could handle.
